Carolina Guzmán
My name is Carolina Guzmán, from Colombia, and I’m studying a Master in Digital Product Management at Barcelona Technology School.
What inspired you to study abroad?
After a long and exciting career in my former employer, I was feeling that I needed a change. I have previous experience studying abroad. I studied in China, Australia, and the States.
This time, I had the opportunity to take this challenge with my family because I have two sons, and we had the dream to live the international experience as a family.
How is living in Barcelona?
Barcelona is a beautiful city, I love it here, there is sunshine every day and even in winter, the weather is so pleasant. You have cultural activities, you can go to the beach and have a picnic there, mountain hiking, biking. It’s a very free spirit city. What I like the most is that I go every afternoon to a different park. When you live in Barcelona, you feel very comfortable.
How do you see yourself in future?
I see myself leading digital products that impact positively human lives based on the needs of the people and the planet.
Are you developing new skills?
Yes, I am developing tech skills mostly. I’m learning how digital products work and the technology behind them and how to build a tech team. In my experience, I knew all the business side, but I always felt the handicap on the technology part. I wanted to know more about big data, web and mobile development, programming, software.
Why would you recommend Barcelona Technology School?
I would recommend Barcelona Technology School because it’s based in the city that promotes building start-ups. Barcelona is running third in Europe for creating a start-up, so it means that is building a digital ecosystem in start-ups, jobs, big companies. Also, because here you’ll find international students from everywhere in the world, the professors are experienced professionals, and they know what they are talking about. They also bring specialized speakers from all over the world. I found in BTS what I was looking for so, I really recommend it.
Is this time abroad impacting your life?
Of course, it’s impacting my life hugely. I was in my office for eight years doing the same thing every day I had a very set up life. Now, with all these changes and challenges I feel so alive and energetic, it’s wonderful.
How is your experience at Barcelona Technology School?
The staff is very happy to help and to give you all the necessary tools to feel comfortable, to get what you are looking for in the program. For example, I had the chance to study online first for three months, and then I started on-campus for the rest of the program. It’s very flexible and open, their goal is to help you develop the skills you’re looking to develop in the school.
