Daniel Segovia
My name is Daniel Segovia from Uruguay, I’m studying master’s in Digital Product Management at BTS, Barcelona, Spain.
What inspired you to study abroad?
What inspired me the most to study abroad was to be able to participate in a program in Barcelona, which is changing its matrix to a more start-up business base and more technological. It was something I was looking for. I was living in Uruguay and was working in tech-based companies. Coming here to this more developed environment, which has a lot of opportunities, was trying to match the studies with the city and it was a really great opportunity.
How is living in Barcelona?
The incredible thing about Barcelona is that is a city for everything. Everything you want or anyone you want to meet is here. It’s a city that allows you to do whatever you can imagine, the connectivity of transport system, museums, cultural and social activities, the university activities…there are a lot of opportunities to go to the city and do whatever you want. It’s a great city to come here to study, work, enjoy and learn, learn a lot.
How do you see yourself in future?
I’m looking forward in my career to get new challenges. I’m used to working in a lot of tech companies. Here I see that there are a lot of opportunities to work in a huge company, in a small company, in a family company, or create your own start-up or join a unicorn. In the next years, I picture myself working in a start-up company or maybe in a tech-based company a B2B but also studying.
Are you developing new skills?
Yes, the main thing about this master’s in digital product management is that is really focused, and it has a lot of practitioners teaching and academic people teaching. There’s a good balance between that and they focus on your development by making a lot of practice work, by learning by doing. Every week we have different challenges, and you really get to polish, learn, and develop new skills applied to the technology business. It is a wonderful opportunity to learn about my career, for myself, and for understanding how everything works.
Why would you recommend Barcelona Technology School?
When I think about BTS, I don’t think only about the school. I think about the university of Barcelona, all the learning ecosystem that is here. We have a lot of congresses; and people that are on the top of the game. We learn from the partitioners people who are one of the best of what they are doing. You can have a talk, share experiences, and learn from them is wonderful from the point of view of developing your skills and your point of view.
Is this time abroad impacting your life?
This is a huge change. I’m a person in my middle thirties and I came to Barcelona to start all over although I still work for my company in Uruguay. The city works in a totally different way. Studying abroad in this University with these professors and with all the infrastructure of the city is a life-changing moment. I’m really learning and starting to know how connected and technologized cities work. So, it’s a huge opportunity.
