Elena Ginebra
I am Elena Ginebra, I am from Mexico, but I lived a little while in London. I studied computer engineering and telecommunications and after two years I was like “maybe I want to learn more about IA” so I decided to come to BTS and I am now doing a master’s in big data and AI solutions.
What inspired you to study abroad?
I wanted to learn something new, I had been at a company for four years and it was about time to learn something new you know you get a bit of life crises here and you like how can I learn and also I was hearing about AI and wanted to know what the future about and I wanted to be less nervous and more understanding of that so because of that mix I found BTS and decided to join BTS.
How is living in Barcelona?
Well, coming from Mexico, I am not used to the European standards of living so it’s really great all the roads and everything for me is absolutely amazing. The food is great, the weather is just like in Mexico really good weather. So, I am really loving Barcelona and of course, I have a lot of friends from BTS so we have a lot of fun as well.
How do you see yourself in future?
Well in the future I see myself in one of two, so either I am in a company ideally that has a bit of social impact or maybe I do my own company that has that. Both of these options would be with a tech-focused, because that is what I am good at, maybe if I were a cook I would be a cook, but that is not what I am good at. And of course, if it has a tech focus it would also have AI in it, so I think it would have AI in there for sure.
Are you developing new skills?
Yes, I am developing a lot of new skills. Specially we are learning to do programming and I did a bit of programming in the past but here I am learning it more focused on AI, so it’s got more models, PYTHON programming and just how to deploy as well, apps which is really interesting for me, so I am learning a lot of hard skills let’s say but also some soft skills, because we have Final Project and in the Final Project we have to work with a team and with people and sometimes we don’t agree, so we have work on the soft skills on how to negotiate and work with your team as well.
Why would you recommend Barcelona Technology School?
I have been in over 8 schools in my life, because I lived in London, I lived in Mexico I been to lot of schools and no institution is perfect, we all know that. But for me, BTS was exactly what I needed, it has a great location, it has staff members and people, because in a lot of places you go to they treat you like a number, and it is a place that they actually care about what you learn, so if something is not nice or something you don’t like they help you. And, they have the focused that I needed I wanted a business focused, but I also wanted to learn about the tech, you know not just like “oh AI is very nice” so BTS is the perfect business focused but with a touch of programming which is really good, so for me BTS perfect for what I needed as well.
Is this time abroad impacting your life?
Yes, this time abroad has impacted me a lot personally and professionally. Professionally specking, I have been able to grow, and I have able to be better with my bosses and talk about AI and even get raises so that has been great. And then personally I have also made a lot of new friends, so I am really loving that!
How is your experience at Barcelona Technology School?
Overall, my experience is amazing! Like I said before, they don’t treat you like a number, so anything you don’t you can say and that’s something you can have in any institution. Also, the students here are amazing, we come from such a diverse background, so many people and they’re for a lot of learning about different cultures and who you are as well as a person. So that has been amazing, like I said we have a lot of friends here, so we all go out together and have some fun, and it’s just a lot of fun. And we are also learning a lot, so overall I am really excited to be here, and I can’t wait for what happens next.
