Humberto Brambila
Hello, I am Humberto, originally from Mexico and at BTS I studied Master in Digital Product Management. Here is where my learnings took me.
What master program that you graduated from?
Master in Digital Product Management
Can you tell us where are you working now and your current role?
I work at Grupo Financiero BASE, a Mexican company with 40 years of experience in the financial sector. My current role is Director of Transactional Development and Investments, where I’m in charge of deposit accounts, investment products, and Electronic Banking.
How did your experience at BTS help to achieve this?
The product management concepts I learned at BTS have helped me speed up improvement iterations in Mobile Banking and Electronic Banking Plataforms. They’ve allowed me to better understand user needs, but beyond that, the challenges faced by the experience design and development teams. Having a methodology for prioritization exercises and understanding the MLP (Minimum Lovable Product) keeps us focused, and we’ve managed to accelerate solution implementation by 40%.
What advice would you give to current students that are doing first steps into their career?
In my opinion, it’s important to have a clear idea of what you want to do and where you want to go professionally. Once you have that, you can make decisions based on that goal and ensure every step in your career is moving you closer to it. You need to learn to say no to certain things to make what you want happen. Also, understand the concept of ‘losing to win.’ Small, consistent decisions will take you where you want to go as long as you know the destination.
If so, can you highlight any achievements or milestones you´ve reached that you´re particularly proud of?
* I implemented a system for processing e-commerce transactions and point-of-sale terminals at one of the major banks in Mexico (Banorte), which currently handles over 150 million transactions per year.
* I integrated the recurring billing solution for Netflix in Mexico in 2011.
* I managed the development of Electronic Banking for Banco BASE, which now has 12,000 business clients and $2 billion in liabilities.
* I’m accountable of the retail banking vertical at Banco BASE, where we’ve positioned our products among the top 10 savings management offers in Mexico.
Why would you recommend BTS?
Yes, I recommend BTS. It allowed me to learn best practices in an international environment to do my job better. I learned a lot from the different projects, and the entire BTS team was very supportive every step of the way. Eloi (the current director of the master’s program) is amazing; he knows the field very well, and there’s so much to learn from him.
