Kateryna Malachkova
Hey, I’m Kate. I am from Ukraine. I’m 23 years old, and I did my bachelor’s in sociology and now I’m doing my UX master program.
What inspired you to study abroad?
Well, I think it’s obvious that I wanted to get a nice experience. I wanted to get better education and I wanted to diversify my education level. So, to get more knowledge from other countries. So, yeah, Barcelona it is.
How is living in Barcelona?
Amazing. Of course, it is amazing. Whether it might be hard to find accommodation sometimes, do not worry, you will handle it. But the seaside, the sun… everything is perfect.
How do you see yourself in future?
Well, I discovered during the master’s that I’m really, really enjoying doing the research. So, I think I want to work as a UX researcher. But we’ll see how it goes.
Are you developing new skills?
Yeah, for sure. I’m developing new skills, but also I want to say that I’m kind of combining all the skills that I had before because I knew how to do the research, I knew how to do some design, but here with the different courses, for example, UX management or UX driven business, I’m kind of adding it all together and mixing it up and it aligns all together perfectly. So, I think it makes my career and my knowledge more enriched, so to say.
Why would you recommend Barcelona Technology School?
I would definitely recommend BTS because this is the perfect start for the beginners. So, if you are afraid to start a new career or to change your career path, or just to try something new, you should never be afraid to come here because this is the perfect spot for beginners. Even if you don’t know anything about design, UX design, UI design, research, UX management…Here you will start from the basics and move further up. But you can also study something by yourself.
Is this time abroad impacting your life?
I would say that I became more confident, to be honest. We have so many presentations during the classes almost every week, if not to say every class. My presenting skills became better, and I am not afraid to talk. Well, I wasn’t afraid to talk in front of other people, but now I know how to do presentations better, how to do pitches, how to explain different cases, or the work that has been done before in a short amount of time. So, I think that’s really, really nice and cool.
How is your experience at Barcelona Technology School?
I would say that BTS is also about people because here you have a very diverse group of people around. They are from different countries with different backgrounds, different experiences. It also makes it harder sometimes, but, for sure more interesting to work with these classmates and to do different projects together. So, you should use this experience to the fullest.
