Maurice Paul
Maurice is a student of the Master in User Experience Design at Barcelona Technology School and he comes from Netherlands.
What inspired you to study abroad?
After my bachelor’s, which is Marketing, I decided to work for two years in marketing in a software company in the Netherlands and there I basically found out about user experience. I was looking at what can I do for my master’s, and I found out about this program here in Barcelona. And I thought: this is going to be two challenges for me to live abroad and do my master’s so… quite an easy decision.
How is living in Barcelona?
It’s amazing! I really like it. I have lots of nice people here. We’re exploring the city together and Barcelona is quite a big city, but the vibe is quite relaxed. It’s way bigger than where I used to live in the Netherlands. I’m from the east side of the country, a small town of only two thousand people. The difference is big, but I really like it.
How do you see yourself in future?
I’m looking forward in my career to get new challenges. I’m used to working in a lot of tech companies. Here I see that there are a lot of opportunities to work in a huge company, in a small company, in a family company, or create your own start-up or join a unicorn. In the next years, I picture myself working in a start-up company or maybe in a tech-based company a B2B but also studying.
Are you developing new skills?
My background is in marketing, so I didn’t develop a lot of experience in UX design. Most of it is new but, what I really like about, is learning about the psychology behind it. We have this subject called Human Factors. It’s nice to think about what the actual thinking is behind producing these digital projects.
Why would you recommend Barcelona Technology School?
I think the most important thing why I like BTS is that they are so personal, and because of it, everyone knows each other. The people from BTS and all the students are quite good. Even the other master’s students. What I really like here is the learning by doing method so it’s not too much theory it’s basically working out everything we learn.
Is this time abroad impacting your life?
I didn’t live abroad before, but I know some people who did it and they basically inspired me to take this challenge and it does impact. I’m not sure what it is right now because I’m feeling quite well here and met lots of new people, but I think this experience will benefit my career and personal life.
