By 2045, the average person in Spain is expected to live up to 85.8 years, the highest projected lifespan in the world. But the real challenge ahead isn’t just living longer, it’s about living better.

This was the core idea behind the Health2Tech session, hosted at Barcelona Technology School exploring the topic of “Longevity by Design: How Neuroscience, Data & Movement Are Shaping the Future of Aging.”

This session was led by Yxel Moreno, CEO & Co-Founder of Vita Longevity, CEO & Co-Founder of Vita Longevity, a Barcelona-based healthtech startup redefining aging through data-driven functional training and cognitive activation.

The talk explored how emerging technologies and neuroscience are helping us move from lifespan to healthspan, a shift that focuses on quality of life, strength, and cognitive vitality.

Redefining how we age

Advances in neuroscience show that the connection between movement and the brain plays a crucial role in maintaining mental and physical agility. Activities that mix both, such as strength exercises paired with cognitive games, stimulate memory, coordination, and overall brain function.

As Moreno explained, “Three months of learning something new can make your brain perform as if it were three years younger.” This insight reflects a broader shift in longevity research: one where proactive, daily habits become as important as medical interventions.

When A.I. meets biology

Artificial intelligence is opening new possibilities in preventive healthcare. Researchers are now exploring how A.I. and digital biomarkers (data extracted from movement, speech, or daily habits) could one day enable the early detection of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s, offering a non-invasive alternative to current testing methods.

These advances point to a future where personalized, data-driven interventions could help extend not just life expectancy, but health expectancy.

Designing longevity through connection

Science shows that longevity is not only about technology. The Mediterranean lifestyle, characterized by nutritious food, physical activity, and meaningful relationships, continues to be one of the strongest predictors of healthy aging.

Moreno highlighted that the years between 40 and 60 are a critical window for intervention. Preventive actions taken during this stage can significantly improve health outcomes later in life, reinforcing the idea that aging well starts long before old age.

If the coming decades confirm current projections, 90 could indeed become the new 60. Not because of luck or magic, but because of deliberate design, where technology, data, and human connection come together to redefine what it means to live well.
