Entering the Universe of Innovation: Mastering the Art of Impactful Problem-Solving at BTS
At Barcelona Technology School, students had the opportunity to attend Make.More.Magic, an inspiring talk by Pablo Quintano, who shared his vision of how creativity and structured thinking can lead to truly transformative innovation. His message centered on one key idea: innovation is about solving meaningful problems with purpose.
The Critical Role of AI Masters in Innovation
During the session, Quintano emphasized that today’s universe of innovation is deeply rooted in technology, particularly in A.I. (Artificial Intelligence). However, he warned against the growing tendency to use A.I. just for the sake of appearing innovative. “Many companies rush to buy A.I.-based software just to claim they are ‘A.I. ready’,” he noted, “but without a clear purpose, these projects often fail.”
For students learning about A.I., this perspective is crucial. The goal should always be to ensure that it serves a tangible purpose, whether that’s making a process faster, improving quality, or delivering better results. True technological innovation is not about implementation, but about impact.
Moving Beyond the “Flower Pot”: The Innovation Mindset
To “make more magic”, Quintano invited students to adopt a new mindset, one that moves beyond predictable solutions. He illustrated this with a simple example: if you ask people to draw a flower pot, they will all draw flower pots. But if you ask them to “find a new way to enjoy flowers,” creativity flourishes. Suddenly, new concepts emerge, from immersive natural experiences to restaurants inspired by floral elements.
This exercise encapsulates the essence of the Master in Innovation mindset: asking better questions to unlock new ways of thinking. Innovation happens when curiosity meets structure.
A Strategic Roadmap for Every Project
Quintano also shared a practical framework for students to apply throughout their master’s projects:
- Define your vision: What is your long-term goal?
- Identify barriers: What’s holding you back from achieving it?
- Measure success: Use specific metrics aligned with your vision.
- Build capabilities: Combine the right technology (often including AI), skills, and processes to make it possible.
By broadening the scope of a problem, “making it a bit bigger,” as he put it, innovators can uncover adjacent opportunities and design smarter, more sustainable solutions.
Collaboration and Leadership in Innovation
Finally, Quintano reminded participants that innovation is never a solo act. It requires collaboration, facilitation, and leadership, ensuring that every idea gets the right support and buy-in to become a reality.
At Barcelona Technology School, this spirit of purposeful innovation defines our community. Through programs such as the Master in A.I. and Big Data Solutions, Master in Digital Product Management, Master in User Experience Design, Master in Digital Transformation and A.I. Leadership, and more, students learn how to combine technology, creativity, and strategic thinking to truly shape the digital future.
